St Mark’s Church: Rock Solid Family Night

In 2021, St. Mark’s Church were awarded £2067.55 by the SKylight Community Fund to run a project designed for local families in Bredbury and Woodley to get together and connect following the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic and isolation increasing social anxiety in young people.

St Mark’s Church began delivering monthly family nights that would combine entertainment, activities, and food; providing two-course meals for all who attended.

Amidst the cost-of-living crisis, and the increase to food costs, Rock Solid fed approximately 720 people over the year – that’s 60 people per month on average!

Quotes:

“It is an excellent group, very welcoming that helps families and kids to do fun activities that help them. It’s a kind place to be”

“Our desire was to encourage local families to have fun together engaging in activities that helped them to relax, and grow closer together, without being concerned about what they were going to eat, or how expensive life is becoming. The provision offered by Rock Solid, became even more significant with the cost-of-living crisis, as families who were already financially stretched faced huge increases in outgoings.” Ruth Bull – St Mark’s Church

Rock Solid still runs today and continues to grow. It is 1.5-hour monthly event for primary aged children and their families. The event takes place in St Mark’s Church Parish Hall, Bredbury, and is open to all.
